On Music Composition
Sound is the first thing I think of when I start making a film, writing, or painting. Visuals and sounds are strongly interconnected for me, and I can’t associate one without the other.
Composing music helps me explore ideas and emotions. I use my musical self exploration and discoveries to create new projects and stories.
I have a history playing flute as well as composing. I studied flute and performed with various ensembles from 2001 to 2017. Playing flute in a variety of ensembles was an influential experience, and as a result there are musical colours I prefer to blend together in compositions. I strongly associate colours with musical timbres. My writing typically includes woodwinds of some kind, along with more modern synthetic elements. I enjoy writing with tonal clusters, widely spaced across the pitch gamut.
